Hebron Church is led voluntarily by a small team of men and women. This team includes ‘elders’ alongside a wider ministry support team. We use the term ‘ministry support’ to emphasise the value we place on supporting the gifts of every individual person within the congregation.
In Gospel Hall tradition there is an important principle sometimes referred to as ‘the priesthood of all believers’. In non-religious speak, this basically means that we consider every individual follower of Jesus to have equal access to God. This was a defining characteristic of the Gospel Halls, at a time years ago, when many church traditions relied upon an ordained priest to administer the communion. In most other traditions such a priest would have to travel considerable distances to serve bread and wine to the congregations of smaller churches. In church history this principle had a transforming effect that continues to shape our values and practices today. Those observing the outworking of this principle, noticed how the congregations of these Gospel Halls shared their faith and ministered to one another on an equal footing – like a brotherhood. Hence the term ‘Brethren’ was sometimes used.
